I went through this thought process a few years back when the E heads where new. I basically settled on the Performer RPM heads. Main reason was a more conventional appearance (mine's a resto mod). If you are looking at new heads and manifold, why not step up to the new technology design.The vortec head is a better flowing head than the 882 although to be used with that cam they will have to be machined to handle over .450" lift. As for an estimate of power I can't say but if the vortec heads work well with the bottom end it has its a safe bet that it will have more power than it did. Like. B.

1973 heads would be the 993's for the 1.94's and did not have the hard seats or at least wasn't good enough to tell. I've done dozens of them and they are soft. 882's did have the inducted seats but are crappy heads. if your serious about building a high rpm screaming sbc I can,t think of anything Ive built or seen built that sounds better or pulls harder than a PROPERLY BUILT 377 , thats a 400 block with a 350 crank, it will spin at 7000rpm quite happily with a decent solid lifter valve train and the extra cubes more than compensates for the slight rpm ...291vs.882 heads. Put the humps on--they are better heads, if you can deal with no holes in them. I put on old power pack 283 60cc chamber, small valve heads, and man, wow!!! The 882 heads were low compression, smog heads, heavy duty castings. They were one of the last, true good casting heads chevy made, besides the 487 and 487X heads.Clermont Fl. Rebuilt 350, flat top pistons, 882 heads, street dominator intake, holley 650 carb, but i went with the comp thumper cams and a rebuilt 700r4 with alto red clutches. Stall is between 1700 and 2000.
